Should I bring someone with me to my first appointment?
Yes, in fact we encourage patients who are beginning their journey to better hearing to have a spouse, partner, family member or close friend accompany them to their first appointment. We believe it is important to the patient’s success to include the family and loved ones in their hearing health care. We have a comfortable waiting room for them to wait while the patient is tested in the booth. We will have the family member or friend accompany the patient for the consultation portion of the visit.
Is your practice handicap accessible?
Yes! We are located in a building with an elevator. The doors open wide to facilitate wheelchair access. We also have a portable ramp for our testing booth for easy wheelchair access. The building itself is also wheelchair accessible and has ample parking with two entrances (front and rear).
How long can I expect to be there for my first appointment?
Generally speaking, an appointment for a comprehensive audiological evaluation and hearing aid consultation should last about an hour and a half. Sometimes, it may last longer if a personalized demonstration of the hearing aids is also performed. We strive to take the time necessary to answer all of your questions.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Our normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Appointments for evening or weekends are accommodated on a case-by-case basis, and by special appointment only.
What if I am unable to travel to your office?
We offer home visits and can also visit patients who are in nursing care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and hospitals. Additionally, we offer telehealth services to all of our patients.
Is your office accessible by public transportation?
Yes. There is a bus stop close-by and many patients also utilize the SCAT Bus System. Contact Suffolk County Transit Information Service at 631.852.5200 Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. The Suffolk County Transit Bus S62 stops near our office at NYS 347/Southern Boulevard and NYS 347/Terry Road. SCAT Paratransit Service is available to ADA eligible passengers. What ages do you see at your office?
We see a variety of patients from pediatrics to adults, with ages ranging from 6 months old to 100+ years old. Our Audiologist is experienced in evaluating the more challenging populations, including those with physical or cognitive impairments. Every patient is approached as a unique individual and services are delivered with compassion and integrity.
Is the hearing evaluation covered by my insurance?
We are Medicare providers and patients who choose to have the Comprehensive Audiological Evaluation will have coverage under Medicare. Patients who do not have Medicare and have either a Medicare Replacement plan or another insurance, can opt to have an Initial Communication Needs Assessment which includes a complimentary baseline hearing test. The Baseline Test gives the Audiologist a good amount of information to determine whether or not the patient has hearing loss, the severity of the hearing loss, and what hearing aids or other course of treatment would best serve the patient’s needs. All adult patients over the age of 21 are eligible for an Initial Complimentary Baseline Hearing Test.
If I need hearing aids will they be covered by my insurance carrier?
That really depends upon your insurance carrier and the type of plan you have. We are aware that many government plans, i.e., County, State and Federal plans do have a benefit for hearing aids. However, other carriers/plans may have also created a hearing aid benefit for their members. If you are concerned about the benefit, you should contact your carrier directly prior to your visit. We often find that if you are currently still employed, it is best to contact your Human Resources Department as they are often more helpful and have a better understanding of your specific plan, than do the insurance carriers. You can also opt to wait until you come into our office, and we will contact your carrier for you to try to ascertain if you have a benefit or not.
Does Medicare cover hearing aids?
Medicare does not cover hearing aids. Sometimes if you have a Medicare replacement plan there might be a hearing aid benefit. However, you will usually receive a booklet from your carrier if they offer a hearing aid benefit through one of the Medicare replacement plans.
What methods of payment do you accept at your practice?
We currently accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, as well as personal checks and cash. We also accept CareCredit and Allegro Credit and payment via FSA and HSA cards.
Do you offer financing for hearing aids at your practice?
Yes. We are currently offering financing through Allegro Credit and CareCredit. Both plans have a zero percent interest rate for one year and offer low interest rates for longer terms.
What Other Options are available?
H.E.A.R.S. Audiology also offers a subscription program that allows patients to make simple and affordable monthly payments, starting as low as $100/month.
